Summer used to seem to last forever. Even as an adult, my favorite season seemed to stretch down a long winding path, with hidden bumps and turns and an unseen destination. How sports, kids and school change things!
Summer began with Brandon's first baseball season. During this season he has had a birthday, visited Akron, attended two weeks of Vacation Bible School and countless playdates.

Baseball season overlapped soccer season by three weeks so for the past weeks we have been busy busy on Tues and Thursdays. Soccer from 5:30 - 6:30 and baseball from 7:00 - 8:00. Coupled with VBS this week from 6:30 - 9 every night, we finally have a boy so tired he has been sleeping in until 9 some mornings. Such a change from every other morning of his life when he would wake by 6:45!
Styrofoam has an excellent static cling quality when shredded.
School supply shopping is complete, from uniforms and new backpacks to specific large glue sticks and composition notebooks. Now that all have been selected it is up to mom to label all of the supplies. Fun, fun! First grade will be upon us in less than three weeks and he is quite ready. He has spent an hour each week with Lori down the street. Lori is a second grade teacher turned SAHM once her third boy arrived and she offers class during the summer to keep the kids fresh so Brandon joined her middle son in the between kindergarten and first grade class. She assures me he is ready to go and really is very smart - he just doesn't like for me to know that.
Katie and Lainey are preparing for their first full year of preschool at good ol' PPP. I am so glad we sent them for the second half of the school year last year. They are eager to go now and were disappointed they aren't old enough to join the 3 morning/week class until next year. Two half days are enough - they are only 3 1/2 and Brandon didn't start PPP until he was almost 4 1/2.
Katie has 26 page books memorized that she "reads" to Lainey and Harrison and can spell her name and write it legibly. Sometimes I think that child is a 30 year old stuck in a three year old's body - until she shocks us by acting her age. Lainey is working on writing her name, but at least now she's interested in sitting down to do so. I think she will turn out to be our big sand bagger. She sits back and watches eevryone else without participating and then shocks all when she finally joins in and performs better than the rest. She is so proud to be potty trained and thinks nothing of running out of the bathroom and proudly inviting Katie to come in to admire her pee.
Speaking of potty training, I am rather proud to say I've trained Madison this week at less than 2 1/2 years old. It wasn't hard - I've been watching her 55 hours/week. Her parents were ecstatic to say the least.
Then we have Harrison. What a happy little guy. Our little buddy boy will be 5 months old tomorrow! Oh, time goes too fast with a baby. I wish we could just hold on to March and April forever and have that newborn bliss last longer. They grow so fast, but are so much fun. We have never enjoyed a baby as we do little Harry. With Brandon, Brian was gone so much with the Army and we were so afraid to make a mistake in caring for him, then with the girls most of their first year was simply survival for Mom and Dad, but this time is just for fun.
Asleep in his jumperoo
We have dropped the 11 pm feeding this past week, but when we needed it Mommy and Daddy's favorite time of the day was kissing him to wake him for that feed. We would unswaddle him and watch him stretch in his sleep and kiss those chunky soft cheeks to wake him up enough to nurse. His brother and sisters are still enamored with him and fight over who gets to fetch a binky or a diaper and who gets to hold him first in the morning.
Pure joy.
