Two Wheels and Tulips

For months now Brandon has been quite physically capable of riding his bike without the training wheels, but couldn't mentally get past the fear factor. He spent so much time putting all of his weight on the trainers, they were at a 45 degree angle to the ground and each time we would straighten them out, they would immediately bend back up under his weight.

As he was riding around last Monday he mentioned he is getting too big for his bike. I agreed with him and casually mentioned how much we would love to get him a bigger bike for his (rapidly approaching!) birthday but the bigger bikes don't come with training wheels so we didn't know what to do. He thought about that for about a minute and announced he had the solution. We should take the trainers off of his bike so he could ride on two wheels. We naturally dropped what we were doing and complied with his request to remove the trainers and he took off down the sidewalk!

The smile says it all!

The neighbors came running out to see him ride and Brandon even tried their bike ramp. That still needs some work, but he tried it. (No, he didn't hit the ground they caught him mid air)

He even left his first skid marks. Guess we'll be bike shopping soon!

I ended up with no kiddos but my own on Thursday due to various reasons so the four us bought mulch and flowers for the front. I'm quite sure Brian was equally excited about the new tulip border as he was to discover the mulching was done for him when he got home from work.
